deacon-led ministry teams

In 2024, our deacons adopted a new way of servant leadership through Deacon-Led Ministry Teams. Each deacon chooses to serve on one of six different teams, and every member of the congregation is invited to be a part of one or more of the teams. You can learn more about these teams below. Then, pray for God to show you which team would be a good opportunity for you. Sign up by contacting the church office, one of our deacons, or filling out this form.

OUTREACH TEAM

Hebrews 13:2 - “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers.”

Members of this team lead the congregation in welcoming guests to First Baptist Rome. Team members follow up with guests by reaching out to them with phone calls, notes, text messages, emails, and visits.

HOSPITAL CARE TEAM

Matthew 25:36 – “I was sick and you took care of me.”

Members of this team care for and support church members and their families who are hospitalized. Team members visit during or immediately following their hospital stay.

NEW MEMBER ENGAGEMENT TEAM

1 Corinthians 12:27 - “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

Members of this team focus on welcoming new members to the congregation. Team members introduce them to people in the church family and help them to develop relationships. They encourage involvement in church life by identifying small group connections to assimilate them to the rhythms of First Baptist Rome.

PRAYER TEAM

Philippians 4:6 – “In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.”

Members of this team pray intentionally as well as continually for the congregation and community. They pray for specific concerns throughout the week and send notes of support to members who have requested prayers. Members of this team will be respectful to keep prayer requests confidential.

SERVICE & SPECIAL PROJECTS TEAM

Colossians 3:24 - “It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Members of this team coordinate and provide hands on assistance with service projects for church members and the community.  Examples are, but not limited to, yard work, minor home repairs, moving furniture, and transportation assistance.

CONNECTIONS TEAM

1 Peter 4:8 - “Above all, love each other deeply.”

Members of this team provide care and support for church members by reaching out to individuals and families. Team members keep the ministerial staff and prayer team informed of needs and prayer requests. The Connections Team enhances opportunities to build relationships among FBC members.
